Lasvit, specialised in bohemian glassmaking, got the opportunity to produce the Olympic trophies for the Czech athletes. The trophies were designed by Gabriela Koukalová, a double Olympic medalist in biathlon, who won two silver medals at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.
All Czech winners from the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will receive a unique glass trophy, produced by Lasvit. The design of the trophy was inspired from Koukalová’s experience in the art of minting medals and coins. She decided to connect the trophy with motion, the symbol of all forms of sport. The idea of a sculptural object derives from the desire to expose, and not to lock in a safe, so it can become part of the athlete’s daily life.
Lasvit is not new to these special collaborations: it has recently designed the trophies won by the athletes of the Tour de France, and previously the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
