Last month, the Hitchin branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) visited a local company in Stevenage to find out about how furniture is put through its paces before it reaches our homes.
The Science and Technology branch of the group visited the Furniture industry Research Association off Gunnels Wood Road.
They were given a tour of the purpose-built furniture testing facility, which celebrated its 50th anniversary earlier this year, outdating many of the buildings and roads in Stevenage.
Established sixty four years ago, the Furniture Industry Research Association was set by the industry for the industry. It provides invaluable technical support to the entire furniture supply chain and funds projects for the benefit of the industry.
