After winning the German Design Award earlier this year, the Leaf Collection from TON has bagged another international honour this time – its seventh win in a row. The Leaf Chair and Leaf Table have been awarded with the Red Dot Design Award 2017. Launched at the Salone del Mobile trade fair last year, E-ggs Design Studio from Italy has designed the Leaf Collection.
Gaia Giotti of the E-ggs Studio, said, “Our aim was to design a product that will be lightweight, functional, and in line with the TON philosophy and its manufacturing process. Because the company dedicates itself to working with wood, we decided to draw inspiration from nature and trees. The sturdy foundation of the table and chairs symbolises a trunk. The light, pressed seat and backrest, on the other hand, reference leaves. Their shape can also be seen in the cross-section of the backrest.”
The Jury statement on the chair read as: “With its organic shape, the Leaf chair exudes a high degree of naturalness. In addition, it carries conviction because of its good ergonomic qualities.”
Speaking of the table, the Jury said: “Its innovative construction gives the Leaf table an appearance of lightness. With its natural look, it is a worthy match for the seating furniture of the same collection.”
TON’s marketing director, Jan Juza commented, “We are very happy that the judges’ panel granted an award to the table as well. It is linked with the chair by the rounded detailing at the top of the legs. Its most impressive visual element, however, is the construction of the table top.”
