Scavolini has been awarded the Special Mention label at the German Design Award 2017 – for the Kitchen category – with its Foodshelf collection designed by French designer Ora-ïto.
Rewarded for its extraordinary design quality, the Foodshelf collection designed by Ora-ïto draws its inspiration from the rethinking of the relationship between kitchen and living room. Indeed, its distinguishing features lie in the reinterpretation of the functional aspects of the living room, which in Ora-ïto’s concept are transferred and extended to the kitchen too. In this collection, the living room joins the kitchen and affects it to varying extents with its composition layout, its play on blocks and voids and, most of all, with the typical dynamic approach of new domestic iconographies, in a truly unique attempt at merging different types of rooms. The result oversteps the usual “breaking apart” of these elements and leaves behind the typical vertical layout of traditional kitchens. Foodshelf has therefore given rise to a “new horizontal linearity” marked by a series of wood effect shelves, which run the entire length of the kitchen, each time playing a different role.

The German Design Award is considered to be one of the most highly-acclaimed acknowledgements in the design world. The awards ceremony is set to be held next 10th February in Frankfurt, before the leading exponents in the world of design, industry and the media.
