“The doors to the Salone del Mobile.Milano, the unmissable appointment for the sector at international level, and the showcase for creativity, innovation and quality par excellence, have just closed.” – Salone del Mobile
The 57th edition of the Salone del Mobile Milano was a success and saw record numbers. The 435,065 attendees from all 5 continents and 188 different countries were testament to the powers of attraction of an event that is a global experience, capable of playing a leadership role at international level. Also the show has witnessed a 17% increase compared to the 2016 edition, which last featured the biennial kitchen and bathroom exhibitions, and an increase of 26% compared with the 2017 edition. 1,841 exhibitors, 27% of them from 33 other countries, showcased their products at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition, plus the 650 designers under 35 featured at SaloneSatellite. A vast array of exhibits that marry quality and creativity, thanks to the hard work, commitment and investment in research of the top companies within the sector.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile was held concurrently with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, split into the following style categories: Classic: Tradition in the Future, which draws on the values of tradition, craftsmanship and skill in the art of making furniture and objects in the classic style; Design, products that speak of functionality, innovation and boast a great sense of style and xLux, the section devoted to timeless luxury re-read in a contemporary key.
There have been many and varied style approaches, from organicism to a return to the classic, to a search for purity and fantasy.
A characteristic common to all the trends was the retrieval of the narrative value of objects, of their ability to create an ambience and live in spaces conceived along the lines of cabinets de merveilles, rooms steeped in shades of pink/red and grey/petroleum. Furniture, lamps and objects adapt perforce to this mood, “warming up” their images with fine woods, precious finishes, enveloping fabrics and, especially, a very particular kind of tactility. Furnishing in 2018 demands to be caressed by the eye as well as by the hand. There are no neutral presences, rather talking simulacra, capable of expressing our ideas, our passions – narrating them.
According to the show, the top 5 attendees by Country are:
• China : 34,286
• Russian Federation : 15,701

• France : 10,506
