moloIn just one month, molo will be going to Germany to create new workplace inspired installations at Orgatec in Cologne. Here is a quick preview of some of the concepts and new designs by Stephanie Forsythe + Todd MacAllen that will be explored at the contract and office design exhibition, which runs October 21 – 25.

Visitos to Orgatec will first find molo on the “Boulevard” (the central atrium space connecting the halls) just in front of the Orgatec Office Hall (Hall 6), where molo is creating seating environments . Here, three installations will be united by the theme of socializing in the workplace. Playing with informality/intimacy and focused space/open space, sculptural topographies of seating arrangements made from natural brown paper will welcome Orgatec visitors to find a place for impromptu meetings, take a rest from the main exhibition halls, and share ideas.

The Boulevard installation will also include the European release of benchwall, the newest addition to molo’s soft collection. Designed by Forsythe + MacAllen, benchwall is an expandable, flexible paper bench with a 1.8 meter (6’) tall back rest that functions as a space partition as well as seating.

Moving into molo’s main installation in Hall 6, Forsythe + MacAllen are sharing new concepts for flexible tabletop work areas made from 50% recycled paper. The series of worktable forms encourage different postures, perspectives, and ways of working.

Each table will have a honeycomb paper structure with a stack of paper as a tabletop surface for sketching. The layers of paper will rotate around a central paper spindle/pencil holder, so that a sketch idea can be spun around to each person at the table to view and build upon the concept.

Like Forsythe + MacAllen’s other paper furniture designs for molo’s soft collection, all the paper office tables, office seating, and flexible office wall elements in molo’s Orgatec installation can quickly flat pack or stretch into new configurations, facilitating changing work environments as needed, and offering flexibility and delight in the context of contemporary activity based office concepts and collaborative working environments.
