The collaboration between 100% Design and New Designers is on its 11th year now. The award is presented to an individual with a focus on a single product the panel feels has a strong commercial potential. It has promoted some fantastic talent over the years.
In July an esteemed panel of 100% Design judges visited New Designers in the hope of finding one stand out designer to exhibit at the show. This year the judging panel selected Matthew Pope for his product ‘Addax’, a modular piece of furniture designed for inner city living where space is at a premium.
Addax is straightforward to disassemble and reassemble and allows the sofa to be moved effortlessly up flights of stairs. Sections can be replaced and added to create a larger sofa and each is customisable with bright and exciting fabrics, giving the user more freedom to design a unique sofa.
Show director William Knight said of the product: ‘Addax is a distinctive product with plenty of potential in more than one market: adaptable for small spaces & expandable for larger ones. It is user-focused, funky, and a great 21st century product.
