The twelfth edition of Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is inviting a highly acclaimed international designer or design studio to create a lounge in Stockholmsmässan’s entrance hall. This time, the assignment goes to Ilse Crawford, who had been named one of Great Britain’s most influential women within the design industry. Ilse Crawford is a designer, academic and creative director with the goal of putting people’s needs and desires at the center of everything she does.
“We are truly impressed by Ilse Crawford’s ability to create places that relate to people, by the way she makes hotels feel like a welcoming home and successfully embodies each project’s own history. For many years we have followed her work closely and admired the stunning breadth of her output. We are very pleased to have Ilse Crawford as our Guest of Honour 2015”, says Cecilia Nyberg, Event Manager of Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.
Ilse Crawford, born in London, started her career as a journalist. At the age of 27, she was commissioned to launch the British ELLE Decoration, and ten years later her career took her to New York, where she was a vice president at Donna Karan Home. She returned to London in 2001 and started her own design firm, Studioilse Creative Direction and Design, which currently has 20 employees.
“I am really flattered to be appointed as the Guest of Honour. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is such a special thing because it feels considered. It combines materiality and modernity, creativity and industry, and addresses quality of life rather than fast fashion. And Stockholm is a city I have a strong cultural affinity for and have loved working in for many years”, says Ilse Crawford.
Previous Guests of Honour have been: Patricia Urquiola, Ronan och Erwan Bouroullec, Naoto Fukasawa, Konstantin Grcic, Giulio Cappellini, Ineke Hans, Paul Smith, Arik Levy, Inga Sempé, Oki Sato/Nendo and GamFratesi.
