This October unveils the latest collaboration between Design Nation and Southbank Centre.
Design Nation Presents is now becoming an annual event where the Design Nation portfolio of designers present new collections of craft, product and design in collaboration with Southbank Centre.
This year Design Nation brings the manufacturing process behind designers collections to London with an insight to the traditional manufacturing techniques from across the British Isles to the heart of the UK.
The UK is rich in manufacturing history and declines in manufacture have lead to an insurgence of micro manufacturing opportunities that are being seized by today’s innovative designers.
Design Nation Presents at Southbank Centre, Festival Terrace, London, SE1 8XX 30 September to 31 October 2013.
“We are looking to celebrate innovation, creativity and British manufacturing at its best but also to engage people with how things are made. By showing films of the processes, by having moulds and factory paraphernalia there to touch and by inviting customers to look at the journey from start to finish we hope to foster appreciation of these beautiful objects but also a greater understanding of why good things cost what they do” Head of Retail & Buying at Southbank Centre.
There is a special open evening at the Festival Hall Terrace Shop for Design Nation Members and guests of Southbank centre.
Managing Director of Royal Stafford Norman Tempest will talk at the opening about the importance of Design and manufacture and how the industry has developed in the last decades to the present day resurgence for local industry. He will talk about the accreditation to the designer rather than to the brand which is the essence of English Eccentrix, the new umbrella brand celebrating emerging designers founded and by Norman himself.
