CMIC to establish IKEA’s first Indian store

ikeaCMIC Group has won a contract to build furniture giant IKEA’s first store in India. Sydney-based construction group CMIC has won a $70.4 million contract to build IKEA’s first retail outlet in India.

 

Leighton Asia, part of the CIMIC Group, is expected to complete the Swedish home furniture giant’s flagship store at Hyderabad in early 2018. The store, over five floors, will comprise three levels of retail space, a market hall, showroom, restaurant, playground, a day care centre and two levels of basement parking.

 

Leighton Asia managing director Roman Garrido said the group was looking forward to developing a strong working relationship with IKEA India.

 

The construct-only contract includes the delivery of civil and structural works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services and external works of the store and warehouse on a 5.2 hectare site.
