Ambiente 2014 Welcomes Japan as A Partner

Published on : Friday, December 6, 2013

AmbienteAmbiente is looking forward to welcoming Japan as its Partner Country with a multi-faceted programme of events in February 2014. The country’s delight at being chosen as the first non-European Partner Country for the global business platform Ambiente is already tangible. With a significant increase in the number of Japanese exhibitors from 78 (2013) to over 100, the Land of the Rising Sun is set to be more interesting than ever before for visitors to the world’s leading international trade fair.

The Japanese exhibitors include companies such as Fuji Cutlery, Kai Corporation, Kyocera, Mark’s Tokyo Edge, Master Cutlery, Miyabi and Noritake. “Japan is one of the most densely populated countries of the world, an important export nation and a leader in the field of modern design. The interaction of traditional arts & crafts and clear stylistic elements make Japanese product design unique. The Partner Country programme gives visitors the chance to experience Japan in Frankfurt live”, says Nicolette Naumann, Vice President Ambiente/Tendence.

Yukio Hashimoto, designer and Ambassador of the ‘Partner Country Japan’ project is looking forward to the presentation at the world’s leading trade fair for the consumer-goods sector. “The world is only familiar with a fraction of Japanese culture and tradition. Through our design, I want to show Ambiente visitors from all over the world the unknown side of Japan”, says Hashimoto, the curator of the special presentation, which he calls ‘Super Ennichi’ or ‘happy festival’. With the presentation, Hashimoto aims to emphasise the lively and entertaining aspects of Japanese culture. Hence, products will be shown and traditional production techniques demonstrated in a colourful setting in the Foyer of Hall 4.1. At daily demonstrations, visitors will be able to see everyday art, such as origami and gift wrapping with furoshiki, a Japanese cloth.

On all days of the fair, visitors will find two joint stands with design-oriented Japanese exhibitors in Hall 11.0, the venue for future-oriented home interior design. Additionally, the Foyer of Hall 11.0 will provide the location for ‘Japan Creative’, an initiative to promote traditional and high-grade Japanese arts and crafts through the development of new ideas and perspectives and drawing international attention to them.

Designed by Veit Streitenberger and Martin Metz, the ‘Red Sun’, ‘Japanese Garden’, ‘Konnichi wa’ and ‘Moshi-Moshi’ cafes in Halls 4.0, 4.2 and 8.0 will provide an opportunity for relaxing or networking.

The Japanese Partner Country presentation is supported by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Japan Tourism Agency, the Consulate-General of Japan in Frankfurt am Main and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
