With “Sustainability as a design philosophy” ALPI is pleased to present its new collections at the Salone del Mobile in Rho for the first time. During Design Week 2022, ALPI located in the S.Projectsection of the fair, illustrating the company’s unique capacity to reinvent wood constantly, widening the frontiers of research in ever-new ways.
The new ALPI collections are rooted in the aim to propose new decorative surfaces in reconstituted wood that exalt the identity of natural wood. Sustainability has always stood central at ALPI, where it is an actual production philosophy. Forest Stewardship Council certification guarantees that the wood ALPI uses is from correctly managed forests, meaning responsibly harvested in accordance with rigorous environmental, social and economic standards.
In addition, the initiative to reproduce types of wood that may not be harvested illustrates how actively ALPI contributes to preserving the environment while offering the design world a sustainable product with high-quality aesthetic characteristics.
This year’s major production news is a project that exemplifies the company’s philosophy. It is the result of in-depth studies of the material, concern for the environment and constant dialogue with designers. This project is the Legacy Collection.
Legacy is a range curated by the ALPI art director Piero Lissoni. It takes inspiration from a selection of lost species such as ebony, Honduras mahogany, teak and rosewood – all woods that are not easily sourced, or even illegal to use. Indeed, their strong aesthetic value made them so popular for so long that serious problems of deforestation and prohibited commerce arose. With this unique and sustainable collection, ALPI makes available a number of ecological veneers that are replicas of their unattainable natural counterparts.
