Alex Meitlis by Hazorfim will make its debut at Maison et Objet this January, showcasing a contemporary range of vases, vessels, candle sconces and bowls. Following the successful launch of the polished brass collection at 100% Design in September 2013, new finishes in silver will be unveiled for the first time at the internationally renowned design show in Paris, alongside a finessed brass collection.
With this collection I am trying to achieve purity and simplicity. The less complicated, the more impactful the designs are. This is my aesthetic vision for the creation of timeless, beautiful objects – says Alex Meitlis, a highly respected designer and architect with offices in London and Tel Aviv.
The collection injects a contemporary feel into Hazorfim’s production. The extraordinary range of objects are founded on deceptively simple three-dimensional forms – ellipses, spheres and cylinders – combined to create compelling and beautiful objects that span the divide between art and design.
Alex Meitlis established his Tel Aviv practice in 1993 following a period of working in the UK, as an architect with the Richard Rogers Partnership and as a designer for Ron Arad. In London, Alex Meitlis is part of the Ottolenghi team, for whom he has designed all their restaurants. His combined approach to design, which encompasses architecture, industrial design and interiors, gives his practice a highly successful vision. His work for international clients ranges from public buildings and spaces such as hotels, showrooms, exhibition and retail areas to high-end private residences.
Hazorfim is an internationally renowned silversmith founded in 1952 in Israel with traditional skills learned in Eastern Europe. Spearheaded by Yadov Merdinger, Hazorfim specialises in handcrafted silverware created by virtuoso artisans, Hazorfim has a broad collection with a particular focus in the manufacture of Jewish art. Its continued manufacture of the highest quality silverware preserves the techniques and cultivates the new generation of younger silversmiths.
