stoires_YChairLaunchesAtTheDock_20September2013Y Chair, the latest product designed by Tom Dixon was launched at London Design Festival this week. Dixon and his company’s recent adventures in hotel, restaurant, bar and office design got looked for a chair to withstand heavy use, constant knocks and the daily abuse of the professional world.

But the thing they were actually looking for a recognizable silhouette, an ergonomic shape and a modern attitude. But after much fruitful searching they decided to make the special design that will make a classy and aristocrat effect on Dixon’s design. Two years of researching, complex engineering significant tooling investment and intense shape- making that they got it.

The Y-Chair’s expressive form is injection moulded in glass-reinforced nylon that made the design and the chair both beautifully sophisticated. This is extremely fatigue resistant because because the short overlapping strands of glass fibre in the plastic provide a much higher degree of strength. The shape of the Y- Chair is prompted by ergonomics- with lumber support, space for the spine and a generous brace for the shoulder blades. The instant recognizable silhouette as added to the design for glamorous look.

The Y-Chair will be available to buy from November and can currently be tried out in London showroom at The Dock.
