weber.rend OCR one-coat base render by specialist manufacturer Saint-Gobain Weber has been specified by main contractor C G Fry & Son in the construction of beautiful new properties at Poundbury, The Prince of Wales’ ground breaking development in Dorchester. These dwellings sit within the South West Quadrant and concludes Poundbury’s second phase of construction.
Designed by Ben Pentreath & Associates, London WC1, architectural specialists in masterplanning, these elegant homes feature distinctive, classically designed three, four and five bedroom houses, apartments and period-style terraces. Drawing closely on late 18th and early 19th century buildings in the county of Dorset and the surrounding towns and villages, particular care has been taken to re-create traditional architectural detail, use of attractive stone and metalwork, and incorporate the skilful application of a decorative ashlar render finish.
weber.rend OCR one-coat base render has been specified for its ease and speed of application which is proven to save days of on-site labour. It offers the added benefit of spray render pump application, to a thickness of 16-25mm, and can be sponged finished in around 4-6 hours. Curing takes place over 2-3 days before the application of a decorative textured finish or traditional masonry paint.
By comparison, a traditional sand and cement render requires two or even three coats of the material with each requiring a curing time of 3-7 days before the final decorative finish coat can be applied. “In a worst case scenario, depending on weather conditions and accuracy of wall alignment, a possible saving of 18 days can be made and at the very least three days,” says James Mead, marketing manager, Saint-Gobain Weber. “Such a vast difference can be measured in real-time saving benefits, labour costs and overall site efficiency. Additionally traditional renders can only be applied by hand but with weber.rend OCR the applicator has a choice to apply by hand or pump.”
weber.rend OCR is a Portland cement, lime and sand mix and is supplied as pre-blended dry powder requiring only the addition of clean water on site, overcoming the possibility of errors with incorrect proportions of raw materials being used. weber.rend OCR offers excellent weather resistance and durability whilst allowing the structure to breathe.
