LivingKitchenWelcome speech by Gerald Böse, Chief Executive Officer of the Koelnmesse GmbH, on the occasion of the Press Statement on LivingKitchen 2015, 04:00 p.m. on 14 January 2014; Press Centre North.

“I am delighted that so many of you have been able to join us today. Your diaries are no doubt full with appointments during the week of the fair. This is why we have opted for this new entertaining exchange of information, which is designed to provide you with a brief overview of the LivingKitchen 2015.

The LivingKitchen has advanced into the international kitchen event within an incredibly short space of time. The premiere event in 2011 was already a huge success, which was indeed topped by the second edition that was staged exactly one year ago.

However, as they say in the world of football: After the game is before the game. There are precisely 12 months to go before the third edition of LivingKitchen – and you are quite rightly entitled to ask what the current situation is regarding this young trade fair. In fact, it is quite simple to sum up our aim: The LivingKitchen 2015 is going to be the best international kitchen event of all time.

Kitchen furniture, kitchen appliances, sinks and fittings as well as accessories – this comprehensive range of exhibits combined with a good mix in the halls is the success factor of the LivingKitchen.

Once again, countless innovations and novelties will celebrate their premieres – world premieres – in Cologne in 2015. Of the 142,000 visitors in the year 2013, alone 43,000 were end consumers, a mix that we aim to increase again in 2015 and sustainably thereafter. Overall, our target is to be able to welcome over 150,000 visitors to Cologne in 2015 – a third of whom will ideally be end consumers.

Renowned big-name brands will be participating – according to the current status, we have already received 60 confirmations. That means that a third of the 190 exhibitors we targeted have already confirmed their participation. The exhibitors will be distributed over three halls – Halls 4.1, 4.2 and 5.2.

We can rely on our strong domestic market to satisfy the international demands.
The overall turnover of the kitchen furniture industry in Germany amounted to approx. 10 billion Euros in the year 2012.

Germany accounted for 6 billion Euros of this – which was more than half. On the domestic market, it was a very favourable development that the number of building permits increased by 13.5% between January and September 2013 compared to the same period of the previous year.

In these regions a kitchen from Europe, but particularly a kitchen “made in Germany” is also one of the important status symbols.
