Icons, A-listers, prominent personalites and like-minded aficionados of style and elegance gathered recently amidst the minimal chic interiors of the new and bespoke Smeg Showroom in Cape Town for an exclusive and prestigious grand opening.
Situated on the corner of Strand and Buitengracht Street in Green Point at the very heart Cape Town – an iconic city honoured as World Design Capital 2014 and a mecca for design and décor enthusiasts, the immaculately designed showroom presented the very epitome of ‘Made in Italy’ design quality to guests with a magnificent showcase of the latest collection in Smeg designer appliances. Included, of course,was the new Smeg 50’s Retro Style collection of small appliances, whose classic, sinuous lines and delicious palette of colours instantly mesmerized all those who attended.
Further to the evocative and eclectic surroundings guests indulged in series of culinary delights compliments of celebrity chef, Smeg Gastronomy and Brand Alchemist, Stacey Lee Chan who perfectly encapsulated the very essence of Italian cuisine much to the delight of everyone.
Adding to the presence of honoured guest and Smeg Global CEO, Vittorio Bertazzoni included the unveiling and official handover of an exclusively produced, special edition Smeg500 in YELLOW as a to tribute Cape Town as World Design Capital 2014 (WDC2014) as a token of Smeg’s continued support and recognition of incredible design.
As the only one of its kind in the world, the yellow Smeg500, was presented to the World Design Capital team on the evening by Vittorio Bertazzoni and is earmarked to be used to raise funds for South African arts and culture. Bertazzoni says, “As a leading brand in in style, design and innovation we are truly honoured to support and pay tribute to Cape Town as World Design Capital for 2014. This collaboration fits perfectly within our strategy to invest, in a meaningful way, into a market where we see the love for good design growing stronger and stronger.”
World Design Capital CEO, Alayne Reesberg, referenced the SMEG500 as yet another example of the ability of good design to uplift the spirits and change the mood of an environment. “A lot of the subject matter we tackle through World Design Capital is quite serious,” says Reesberg.
“The SMEG500, despite its unquestionably good and robust design, is a fun, quirky piece; a conversation starter that gets people talking.” Reesberg concluded proceedings with a warm welcome to the SMEG team, congratulating them on their new showroom opening. “The very fact that you are here, helps us in our job to raise design awareness and Capetonians are definitely ready to take part in the dialogue.
