Sancal’s futuristic collection at the Salone del Mobile

sancal-milan-design-weekThe Spanish brand’s stand during the Milan Design Week 2016 was designed to take the visitors back to space and its stylish futurism. They launched the Futura collection – a retro-futuristic collection of furniture featuring tables, chairs and ornaments.

Inspired by the futuristic architecture of the 1960s, especially that of science fiction films, Sancal created their fair stand like images of a space station. Travelling in space should be both elegant and comfortable. Nothing better, then, than the Tortuga easy chairs, ideal for whiling away the hours or swivelling into action in an instant.

Tortuga translates as tortoise – the chair designed by Spanish studio Nadadora, is is based on the animal’s shell. It features a curved back and the headrest is designed to envelop the user.

The loneliness of space is offset by the station’s breakout areas – featuring the Tonella mini lounge chairs designed by Stockholm-based Note Design Studio; and Duplex coffee tables designed by Spanish brand Mut.

All these designs were presented at last month’s Salone del Mobile design fair.
