RokosRokos create playful, sculptural products that behave in unexpected ways. Head designer Jim Rokos explores the physical properties of materials to generate aesthetic, intriguing concepts. Winners of the prestigious 2012 Reddot Design award for the 13° 60° 104° Wine Decanter, Rokos creates products of exceptional quality for the luxury market.

For designjunction 2014, Rokos will be debuting the Gauge vase. The vase’s design enables it to come alive. The weight of the water holds the Gauge vase upright. As the flower drinks the water the vase ‘wilts’, letting us know that it needs watering – an irregular movement is created, reminiscent of flowers dancing in a breeze.

The leaning problem was solved without hiding the mechanical method. The material, glass, allows a viewer to understand that there is no trickery. A symmetrical shape was required so that it has the option to go into larger production and can be easily produced with the use of a mold. The problem of the vase rolling away when in the horizontal position is taken care of by the asymmetrical flower.
