Petite Friture presents new collections for 2018

Petite Friture - dojo seriesThe French design brand Petite Friture will be launching their new 2018 products at the imm Cologne and Maison&Objet Paris fairs under the Villégiature PF theme – a concept that runs through the brand’s booth design, styled photography, and marketing material.

Meaning “resort” in French, Villégiature PF is an imaginary holiday home depicted by French illustrator Lisa Laubreaux. Sketches, which depict figures dancing at a late summer bank holiday street party, building sandcastles by the seaside, and having a picnic on the lawn, are collaged together with photography of the new products.

The brand comments, “Petite Friture has placed its new collection within typical holiday scenes sketched by illustrator Laubreaux; each is designed with the invitation to jump into the drawing and reminisce on those familiar moments we’ve all experienced or encountered at one point in our lives. This will be replicated in the booth design at imm Cologne and Maison&Objet.”

Some highlights of the 2018 launches include:

THIN nesting coffee tables

Petite Friture - nesting tablesSpanish designer Max Enrich has contrasted simple, geometric panels with bulky, tubular legs to create a trio of nesting steel coffee tables. The THIN tables include three different shapes: a square, a rectangle, and a triangle.

Steel is used to create both the tubular legs and the slender surfaces of the tables. They all stand at different heights, so that they are able to nest inside one another, creating a more complex shape when combined.

The designer says, “I create furniture pieces with a purely aesthetic intention. They are objects to be observed. Objects in the form of a chair, table or lamp, but objects that play with visual elements, such as form, colour, light or geometry.”

The tables are coated with grained epoxy paint in a range of colours, including white, burgundy, black, and blue.

The DOJO series

Petite Friture - dojo chairParis-based design firm AC/AL Studio has created the Dojo series comprising of a chair, arm chair and a dining table, with forms influenced by the practice of martial arts.

The designers say, “Dojo, the result of two years of work, is characterised by a rigorous outline. In reference to the Dōjō, a place dedicated to the study of meditation and the learning of martial arts, this collection emerged from a search for essence, and harmoniously unites structural tensions and the fluidity of the lines.”

The Dojo chairs are characterised by their curvilinear silhouettes that recall the form of classic bentwood chairs. While the legs and seats are made from beech, the chair backs are made from steel. Similarly, the Dojo table features a top made from beech, while the legs are beech at the bottom and steel at the top.

The combination of two contrasting materials participates in the fluidness of the curves. The Dojo collection marks the design studio’s third collaboration with Petite Friture.
