IDSAShingai, an artist and businessman recently joined the IDSA team as member relations coordinator. He serves as the first point of contact for our membership department. He also performs administrative and operational functions, including assisting with member dues collection process, managing SCARFs for weekly review and maintaining the Chapter and Section Leadership roster.

Finally, Shingai works in a strategic capacity to conduct inter-society research and compile best practices on membership, chapters and professional interest sections, and he collaborates with other IDSA departments to facilitate recruitment and retention initiatives.

He comes to IDSA from the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), where he worked as part of the SIR membership team and helped craft grant applications. “Being my first non-profit association I was able to wear multiple hats in the company, working with all departments,” he offered. “It also gave me a chance to share my creativity, being able to contribute my thoughts on various marketing materials and consignment options for the annual convention.”

The Virginia Commonwealth University alum is also an aspiring singer. He cites his family as a good source of inspiration. “My father has five brothers, and they were all in an A cappella group,” he recounted. “Growing up, I would occasionally practice with them when they would all get together. I think being around them through the years and singing in the church gave me the desire to want to sing.”
