Natuzzi is going to be in Milan from April 17 to 22 at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile fair. They will be present in Pavilion 16, at Booth E41 – F46. In 2018, the brand evolves into a Lifestyle Brand with coordinated padded furniture, furnishings and accessories that define a harmonious surrounding environment, inspired by the geography and landscape of Puglia, essential part of the company identity that was founded in this territory in 1959.

The internationally-recognized design studio of Marcel Wanders, interpreted the DNA of Natuzzi Italia transforming the shapes, colours, textures and aromas of Puglia into a rich collection with two distinctive collections. “I felt it was truly an honour and also our responsibility to really bring the parts of the surrounding areas into the design. When we are able to incorporate the local culture and natural beauty of a region it allows the furniture to then create a sense of place” said Marcel Wanders.

Marcel Wanders has created a contemporary, yet culturally-rooted and uplifting home furniture collection based on the Puglia landscape, architecture and lifestyle. It brings to mind, the white houses of Ostuni, the blonde terra cotta amphorae, the grey stone of the trulli houses, the warm brown of the fertile earth, the silvery tints of the olive groves, the faded green of the spiny cactus faded by the sun, hung up in garlands at the corners of windows.

The furniture designed by Marcel Wanders includes rounded sofas and armchairs, cocooning as shells, covered in reddish-brown leather and finished with saddle stitching; a cart that steals the warm brown of the freshly tilled earth; large oval terra cotta vases with handles made from cord; compact rounded poufs with cord handles covered in leather of the same colour as the freshly ploughed fields; large terra cotta trays decorated with circular graffiti that are almost primitive in taste; linear wooden furniture in various dimensions with textile doors with an embroidered wavy motif of tree olive leafs and a rug decorated with a mirrored effect, similar to Rorschach’s inkblots, inspired by the knotty trunk of the time-honoured olive trees and coloured in olive green.

Mario Bellini – great architect and designer, winner of eight Compassi d’oro, author of icon products –has also designed the Natuzzi headquarters in America in 1998.

Bellini designed an imposing round table for Natuzzi Italia, equipped with a thick top (1.5 cm) of extra-clear glass of two meters of diameter. Called Torsion, it has as support a weave of six petals of solid olive wood, which opens to support the glass top.

Torsion deserves to stay at the center of space, as a sculpture, thanks to a design capable of enhancing the evocative power of the olive wood support, which is twisted, like the centenary plants of Puglia, bent by the winter wind.
