Materia exhibited the most innovative materials for the world of design at the UK’s May Design Series in London for the second time. Its successful Material Xperience On Tour concept featured selected partners as well as a curated presentation from the company’s independent collection. May Design Series 2014 was held from May 18 – 20, 2014 in London, UK. The next scheduled Material Xperience on Tour will be at METS in the Amsterdam RAi this November.
Audience reactions were positive, with many visitors commenting that the interactive nature of the show was of particular interest. Designer Elena Bolognesi of Italian firm Irial: “Materia’s stand at the May Design Series could not be missed, a great inspiration to architects and interior designers.”
New to the UK show this year was the ‘Discover’ concept. A high-resolution camera gave visitors a rare glimpse of the level of material detail on display. Some of the most popular materials at May Design Series 2014 were SibuGlas, a beautifully radiant decorative panel, and Ply Project, a wood and foam flexible material.
The interaction continued at the partner booths that make up part of the travelling Material Xperience On Tour concept. This year’s UK edition featured recent developments by a selection of our partners. These members were Acosorb, who displayed versatile and colourful seamless acoustic spray plastering and stucco; Eeuwenhout, with reclaimed and renewed wood from dismantled North American barns; Esthec, exhibiting high-quality, wear-resistant finishes and composites; Foreco, introducing award-winning modified NobelWood for tropical hardwoods; Made a Mano, showing an exclusive design tiling collection of Sicilian lava stone; Mosa, demonstrating dynamic ranges of tiles; and Plexwood, with their popular, signature woods.
For extensive material explanation and audience discussion, Materia creative director Els Zijlstra held a seminar on ‘Smart Materials in Architecture’ on the show’s opening day.
