Maker Carousel by Mette to Be Presented At 100% Design

100_logo1 copyThis year’s interior hub, Maker Carousel by Mette, will explore the world of a contemporary designer-maker, featuring a range of applications from 3D printing, hand-making and tech-integrated technology for all visitors to experience.

The 81sqm ‘carousel’ highlights the creative, practical and commercial journey of the maker based on the cycle ‘Think, Make, Communicate’.

The ability to produce what you design breaks down huge barriers in terms of prototyping and production, whichever blend of craft and technology you choose. But whether made by hand, 3D printed, tech-integrated or a mix – everything which combines usefulness and beauty starts with a strong idea. For this reason the Maker Carousel begins with creative thinking and follows a flow which showcases opportunities that a designer-maker can consider for a creative yet productive career.

In keeping with 100% Design 2014’s theme of ‘Serendipity’, the participation invited at the Maker Carousel will include an element of spontaneity and unpredictability.

The feature will encourage experimentation and play through talks, tasks and activities based on both hands-on and hi-tech methodologies in design, from paper prototyping and block-printing to 3D printing and connectivity.

As well as touching on a number of methodologies, materials and practices which represent a cross-section of maker culture, the Maker Carousel will include a talkspace and inspiration area.
