OEKO-TEX For the embroidery to have the desired visual effect, the yarn must be precisely tailored to the material quality, colour, look and use of the finished product. The yarns from MADEIRA Garnfabrik Rudolf Schmidt KG meet the highest standards in this respect, with an unmatched diversity in terms of qualities, yarn thicknesses and colour ranges. MADEIRA’s entire article range is also certified in accordance with the stringent requirements of product classes I and II of OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

MADEIRA is a manufacturer of high-quality embroidery, decorative and fancy yarns for the international embroidery and fashion industry. Founded in 1919 as the company “Burkhardt und Schmidt” in Freiburg, the headquarters with the essential development, quality inspection and production centres is still located in Freiburg in the Black Forest. With the restructuring and renaming that took place in 1975, the company became a successful global player. Across the world, the company now has numerous subsidiaries and distribution centres with international sales logistics in a total of 60 countries. Despite huge expansion, MADEIRA is committed to the founders’ traditional values and inventiveness. This primarily includes the desire to offer the very varied group of customers optimum product quality with modern diversity. The three main factories in Freiburg (Madeira yarn factory, Madeira yarn dyeing, Madeira yarns) employ around 170 people and there are a further 280 employees in Europe, the USA and the key markets in the Far East.

Through a constant exchange with users, the product range is continuously modified and enhanced in line with customer requirements. The ongoing dialogue with popular trend media and design associations also enables MADEIRA to identify trends, fashion movements and tendencies early on and react to them. Madeira currently offers embroidery yarns in a wide variety of materials, e.g. viscose, polyester, wool or metal in several yarn thicknesses and well over 1500 colour nuances and effects (e.g. yarns that glow in the dark). They are used in a broad range of articles, from shoes to hats, from toys to towels, from badges to uniforms and across a variety of industries, from fashion and sports gear to the automotive industry.

In 1994, MADEIRA was a pioneer of testing for harmful substances in accordance with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 and was therefore committed to sustainability and compliance with environmental standards early on. In accordance with ISO 9001 certification, MADEIRA has implemented comprehensive quality management that extends from the careful selection and ongoing testing of the raw materials used and laboratory tests before and after yarn dyeing through to the checking and constant optimisation of the yarn running properties with the help of specific application tests. Between 2003 and 2007, Madeira invested heavily in a future-oriented machine park that saves energy and protects resources, and since then, has been able to reduce the energy consumption per kilo of produced goods by 40%. In the dyeworks, new machinery and a change to the dyeing process have led to a reduction in energy and water consumption of up to 50%. As part of its scrupulous resource management, MADEIRA continuously invests in ultramodern technologies with the aim of reducing the use of natural resources.
