Luca Nichetto To Present New Designs In imm Cologne

Published on : Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Luca Nichettoimm cologne 2014 will witness the presentation of new versions of the Motek chair and the Deck chairs designed by Luca Nichetto for the companies Cassina and De Padova.

Cassina presents a new version of clean-cut chair Motek with solid wooden armrests which gives it an even more geometric yet comfortable form and the new colors of felt, blue and green, along with a variety of additional new typologies of leathers.

De Padova dedicated the reception and negotiation area to the Deck seating system now available in different versions for the home, the office, contract projects and outdoor use.

The inspiration behind Motek chair is a sheet of paper, which is flexible and lightweight by its very nature. Originally, a sheet of paper cannot bear weights, but the Japanese art of origami – which, with a series of folds, creates forms and structures that can support weights – the same sheet takes on a new lease of life. Thanks to a new technology for Cassina, such as pressure molding, a sheet of felt is folded, which will bring the necessary rigidity to the body of the chair for it to support weights without losing the lightness of the original material.

In this project, the search for details and the experimentation with materials typical of the collaboration between Nichetto and Cassina led to a felt version of the chair, which comes two shades of grey felt and a new blue or green felt, and can also be upholstered in a further variety of natural, black, dark red or brown saddle leather to create an even more sleek design where attention to detail is highlighted in the stitching that defines the folds of the chair. The adaptability to the different consumers’ tastes is yet another feature sought by Nichetto for Motek, which was obtained through a series of combinations of structure, legs and body.

The great ocean liners of the past had long promenades that overlooked the sea. These decks, as well as the seats that were placed along them, were made of boat building wood, which is resistant to moisture, salt and adverse weather conditions. This is where the inspiration for Deck comes from – Deck is a collection of chairs aiming at combining the resistance of outdoor furniture with the elegance of indoor seats so as to create objects that are suitable for any environment. The chairs of the Deck collection have a plastic structure, the same for all versions, and a backrest and a seat that are made of wood or upholstered. Deck comes with three different variations of the legs – one four legs, one with swivel four-spokes and one with five-spokes with wheels – all the version are available with or without the armrests depending on the user’s requirements. Thanks to its clean lines and high adaptability to any environment, the collection Deck fits perfectly with the collection of tables Railway, designed by Nichetto for De Padova.
