IDSAAt the end of 2013, Beverly Kalamba joined the IDSA staff to support the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) program. Early in 2014, her role has expanded to exploit her background in events management.

Officially listed as IDSA’s Program and Conference Coordinator, Beverly is the point of contact for all previous and prospective IDEA participants where she assists those who have inquiries about how to participate in the awards program. She also helps conduct research on potential catering, locations and travel accommodations relating to IDSA’s conferences.

While completing her undergraduate studies at Old Dominion, she held a position with her school’s Students Activity Council, where she helped plan events like an international fashion show and a 5K race. She recalled, “The 5K we planned was to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. Seeing the families get together and run the race really warmed my heart.”

Before leaving Old Dominion, her coursework enabled her to return to the place she was raised: Kinshasa, Congo. “My last semester of college I did an internship in Congo where I assisted the Events Manager at the Grand Hotel Kinshasa,” she noted. “I attended some events at the hotel as a child so I was excited to go work for them. The experience itself was a highlight in my life because the last time that I was in Kinshasa was in 1997. I experienced quite a culture shock, but being able to have all my childhood memories come to life made it a trip of a lifetime.”
