FIRA’s Ergonomics Excellence Award recognises companies who design and manufacture ergonomically outstanding products, especially those that meet and generally exceed the requirements of British and European standards.
Assessment for the award included analysis of the product’s dimensions to determine what percentile of the population could comfortably use the range. Pressure mapping was then undertaken with participants who covered 5th to the 95th percentile of the UK population to gauge comfort levels over longer-term use, by determining whether parts of the body started to take increased pressure after set time intervals. In addition the range was tested to sections of BS 8474:2013 Furniture – Chairs with electrically operated support surfaces – Requirements.
Matt Hudson, CEO at G Plan, said “Designing a market-leading ergonomic product was always front-of-mind when we developed the new Flair range. It’s often a challenge to create a range that is durable, functional, aesthetically pleasing and also offers comfort to a broad range of consumers with different body types and needs.
“That’s why the FIRA Ergonomics Excellence Award was so attractive. As the award process included independent in-depth assessment and comfort analysis across a range of the percentile population we could be sure our new range offered ergonomic qualities to today’s consumers.” Matt added further.
