In celebrating the 60th anniversary of some of Arne Jacobsen’s most iconic designs, Fritz Hansen has chosen to work with the most exclusive materials, focusing not only on their appearance but also the way they feel, smell and age. In addition to reflecting the luxury inherent in these iconic designs, the new materials also enhance the personality of each chair from head to toe.
The 60th anniversary collection – named “Aging With Beauty” – consists of the Egg and the Swan chairs in Pure leather and the Drop chair in Sera fabric. The celebratory collection also includes three lighting and accessories elements: the classic KAISER idell floor lamp in a new finish, a pouf by Cecilie Manz, and a throw in ultrafine merino wool.
The design team at Fritz Hansen set out with the mission to reinterpret a series of icons while staying true to their globally recognised form and quality. Their ultimate goal: to unite a renowned heritage with a design that would remain relevant in time.
With the serenity of nature as the starting point for the process, the design team developed a collection of furniture and accessories that appeals to all senses and turns pure materials into personal design objects.
The materials that define the anniversary collection range from soft and serene Pure leather to a 23-karat-gold-plated base, both of which will acquire a patina and an expression of their own with time. The brand’s design team has refined not only the aging process but also the feel, look and scent of each design.
The collection keyword – purity – emphasizes the unique ability of pure materials to become truly personal with time. Along with originality and longevity, pure design is fundamental to the Republic of Fritz Hansen design DNA. For instance, with its soft touch, Pure leather is a visual pleasure that tells the story of the material’s original existence. Beauty marks like scars, tiny insect bites and visible necklines reflect the natural life of each leather hide.
To salute the Egg and Swan, the design team have upholstered them in premium pure leather, remarkable for its soft touch and an exclusive appearance that only grows more beautiful with time. The Drop has been upholstered in the wool textile Sera in taupe. It has a grainy feel and an organic look, complementing the authentic, natural feel of the collection. The original star base on all three chairs is plated with 23-karat-gold, emphasizing the sophistication and elegance integral to this iconic furniture.
THROW
The superfine merino wool throw comes in an earthy, subtle, brown-grey tone that both contrasts and complements the Egg and the Swan’s serene, delicate palette. The varying patterns and fringes reference the textile tradition of India and the East and create a dynamic look.
POUF
Cecilie Manz designed the original pouf for Fritz Hansen Objects in 2016, and this limited edition elevates the superior design to even greater heights. The bottom half of the decorative and functional pouf is upholstered in linen, while the top features Pure leather left over from Egg and Swan production.
KAISER idell LAMP
For the 60th anniversary collection, the iconic KAISER idell tiltable floor lamp is interpreted with a new surface: an enchanting, metallic dark brown that stays true to the earthy colours of the rest of the collection. Beautiful brass details complement the dark surface.
The special 60-year anniversary collection is available for sale from February 1, 2018. The Egg and Swan chairs are available in a limited number up to 1,958 pieces each. The Drop chair and the accessories will only be for sale during 2018.
