FIRA to supply STAR rollout for furniture repair specialists

firaFIRA Service Technicians (FST) is supplying all of its technicians with tablet computers, giving them access to its new Service Technicians Advanced Reporting System; ‘STAR’ for short, a tablet-based reporting tool. As part of FST’s service, skilled and experienced furniture technicians visit customers’ homes to assess reported faults with furniture items, carry out repairs or make a recommendation and then write a detailed report.

The manager of FIRA Service Technicians, John Oliver, said: “Historically, reports were hand-written and uploaded to the system when the technician was able to gain access a computer, usually upon their return home. One of the benefits to our clients of the STAR System is that it will allow reports and digital images to be uploaded whilst the technician is out on the road – this will mean that the report is available to them sooner.”

The STAR System will also provide support to FST’s technicians whilst they are carrying out inspections and repairs in a customer’s home, not only does it completely replace the need for pen and paper but it provides the technician with key procedural and product information whilst they’re in the field, greatly enhancing the possibility of a successful conclusion to the visit for all parties.

John continued: “The STAR System includes a wide range of features, including access to our extensive technician knowledge library which contains detailed product information and information on particular repair techniques. It can play short instructional videos for technicians and even client videos that could be shown to customers.

Another key feature is the ability for us to notify the technician of any ‘key requirements’ which they must fulfil as part of that specific visit. This means that we can automatically, by client and product type, direct the technician to carry out, or not carry out, certain actions based on client preference. This allows us to provide our clients with a truly bespoke service which most closely meets their needs.”

The new technology was launched during Interiors UK at Birmingham’s NEC which took place on the 19-22 January.

John concluded: “All FIRA service technicians will be provided with STAR System tablets over the next few months. I am really excited about this investment in FIRA Service Technicians and the benefits it will deliver to our clients and their customers.”
