David Phillips Organises Christmas Fundraiser

PhillipsThis Christmas all of the staff at David Phillips will be raising money for The Big Issue Foundation and they will be our charity of choice for 2014.

Up to 100 homeless people a week turn to The Big Issue for an opportunity to earn an income, often at a time of personal crisis. The Big Issue Foundation works exclusively with Big Issue vendors, providing them with support and guidance as they start to work themselves away from the streets.

The Big Issue Foundation helps vendors to raise money towards tackling the challenges that made them homeless, as well as the challenges they face as a result of being homeless. The money raised is used for healthcare, financial support such as opening a bank account, covering housing costs, and to fund homeless peoples’ life aspirations.

The Foundation also has a Vendor Support Fund specifically aimed at helping vendors to fulfil an objective in mind. For every two pounds that a Big Issue vendor raises themselves towards something that they want to do, The Big Issue Foundation aims to provide a further eight pounds towards the cost. These objectives can come in the form of training and employment opportunities, re-establishing family networks, and even personal hobbies and interests. The money could be used to pay for a vocational course or a passport to provide ID for opening a bank account.
