Cormar Introduced New Docks at Northampton

Cormar carpetsTo support growth in retail sales Cormar Carpets has introduced a new cross-dock distribution centre in Northampton.
The new 20,000 sq ft cross-dock distribution centre was opened in September last year, in time to cope with increased demand for carpets during the run-up to Christmas. Already the new cross-dock centre is proving to be a success, having handled over 18,000 carpet orders in the first three months.

The distribution centre sits alongside the company’s existing out-base depots, providing additional support to current facilities in the loading bay and cut lengths department at Brookhouse Mill in Bury, Lancashire.

The Northampton site is operated in conjunction with the Company’s existing transport partners. The depot now operates 11 vehicles each day.

Carpet orders are loaded in bulk on huge 44ft trailers in Bury, to then trunk to Northampton overnight, unload and finally reload onto local delivery routes, as normal.

Said Craig Marshall, Head of Order Channels and Logistics “We pride ourselves on our on time delivery performance, so wanted to make sure we had as seamless a transition as possible, with no disruption to our customers during the peak delivery period of the year. We are now looking forward to volumes rising further and providing an even better service to our customers.”

All Cormar carpet ranges are produced in the UK on site at its Lancashire mills and distributed throughout Britain and Ireland via Cormar’s own delivery fleet.
